A crowd had gathered outside the Dallas County Sheriff's Department offices on Houston Street on Sunday morning, November 24, 1963, to await the arrival of suspected assassin Lee Harvey Oswald from the city jail. Oswald was shot before the transfer could be completed. This image was taken after news of Oswald's shooting had spread.

Onlookers line both sides of Elm Street to watch the reenactment; memorial flower arrangements are visible on the grass on both sides of the street.
